Have you or someone you know been the victim of a crime? Has someone tried to run a scam on you? If so, please contact the Chicago Jewelers Association Crime Alert Network. We will send out an alert so that we help maintain a safe environment for the jewelry community. If one jeweler is being preyed upon it is likely that others are going to fall victim to the same perpetrators. We need to maintain a collective shield of information to the community to help make it a safer environment to work in. To be successful we need to share information and let everyone know.

Crime Alert News: FLASH! What: Armed Robbery Where: Jewelry store on the near south side of Chicago. When: Saturday, September 19, 2009. Description: Two masked men entered the store and herded the proprietor and employees into a back room. No weapon was displayed. The thieves took finished goods including rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces all made of 24kt gold. Everyone should be alert to persons trying to sell these goods. They can be distinguished by the hallmark in Chinese characters on the insides of the jewelry. Call: Detective Chopp, Area 1, (312) 747-8384, Chicago Police Department. FLASH! What: Theft. Where: Algonquin and the surrounding Illinois suburbs. Description: Suspect #1 is Male Hispanic, mid 20's with long black hair. Suspect #2 is Male Hispanic, older, with short hair. Information: Two subjects entered the store and advised they wished to sell a gold necklace. Terms could not be reached on the sale, the store clerk became distracted and the suspects switched necklaces with a fake one. A previous case may have happened in the South Elgin area. Call: Det.
